Such a lot of rubbish has been written about 'staycations' of late (if you're one of the few people who actually went away on holiday this summer and missed all this, a staycation is a holiday spent at home), that I feel almost embarrassed about chipping in. But not that embarrassed, obviously.
Whether due to a lack of NET funds, the stigma of travelling abroad or simply the fear of ending up on a boat with Peter Mandelson, this year the fashionable thing was to stay in the UK, building sandcastles wearing duffel coats, mufflers and anoraks.
