Summary

STAR QUALITY: Angelina Jolie, Pierce Brosnan, Chris Moyles and, in earlier times, Charles Dickens.

VITAL STATISTICS: A coaching inn that has grown to Shrek-like proportions - and has the greenery to match - it's been dispensing hospitality since 1432. A new wing at the back means that there are now 76 rooms. Some of them belie the hotel's venerable exterior, having been pepped up with chic new furnishings, while others hover around the late 19th Century in feel. Downstairs the vaulted cellar, said to contain a secret passageway to the nearby abbey, has become a wine bar.
