Roman Abramovich is relaxing on one of the Art Deco-inspired cream sofas on the upper deck of his new Pounds 72-million yacht Ecstasea. A crew member arrives with a chilled bottle of Dom Perignon champagne. Having spent the last two hours fielding business calls, the Russian billionaire owner of Chelsea Football Club is determined to enjoy the remaining hours of his break sailing off the coast of Southern France. White potted orchids the only flowers permitted onboard perfume the air. The burr of an approaching helicopter draws his attention beyond the bulletproof glass windows. He checks his watch as the elevating deck for the onboard helicopter is activated. Freshly prepared delicacies, brought all the way from his favourite London restaurant, are arriving in time for dinner.

Ecstasea, the newest of the three superyachts in Abramovich's fleet, is custom-built to his personal specifications.

The 282ft masterpiece has created such a buzz in the world of millionaire's yachts that the prestigious Superyacht Society has already shortlisted her for a prize in their annual design awards.

The traditional naval architects De Voogt, who designed the boat, were given an 'unlimited' budget. When Abramovich was asked by his designers what he wanted he used the word 'fun'.
