SENATORS can now avail of a new 'constituency allowance' in the overhauled expenses system despite not having constituencies, the Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Government sources said that members of the Seanad, which could be abolished if Fine Gael gets into power, successfully lobbied for the E3,250 allowance to cover expenses incurred travelling and working in their constituencies.
