Summary
FOR years I have been drawing attention to the fact that, in the matter of the relationships between fathers and children, the State persists in by far the greatest abuses of human rights perpetrated in this society since independence. I am aware that this insistence engenders no little impatience in certain quarters. The problem is that it remains true.
This week again the pattern showed itself briefly above ground. A single father won a High Court order overturning the adoption of his daughter by his former partner's husband, which had occurred without his knowledge with the collusion of the Adoption Board.
