Mistletoe grows well in my garden -- I have five good bunches of it -- but its success has nothing to do with me. It is untameable, growing where and when it chooses. Having said that, I have managed to persuade some to grow by squidging a berry into the fissure in the bark of an apple tree, but that was just one out of 20 attempts, and I've no idea why that one worked and the others failed -- or even if mistletoe would have appeared on that tree anyway, without my interventions.

Of course, it does not just appear like magic.
