SIR Sean Connery has claimed Scotland could have become a major player in the international film industry if he had given up his support for the SNP and defected to Labour.

Speaking after close friend Alex Salmond was named First Minister in the wake of the nationalist party's election victory, the acting knight said a plan with which he was involved to build a film studio in Scotland foundered because senior Labour politicians refused to work with him.
