Musicians and road trips join the dots of world cinema this week. In El Violin (15) **** Don Plutarco is a onehanded Mexican farmer who plays his battered violin for an army captain.
Its a story of peasant rebellion and poetry, of guerrillas in the mountain mists and government repression. Don Plutarco is touchingly played by 81-year-old Angel Tavira, whose music has something of a screech about it.
