The criminals should be living in fear, not us The answer to rising crime in the real world, as opposed to the Government's world of spin, is to use the dreaded P-word. P is for Punishment and it should be meted out with a degree of severity to ensure that criminals become familiar with the F-word.

F is for Fear which innocent citizens suffer because the Government won't use the P-word with criminals. Criminals and potential criminals should fear harsh punishment if they are caught.

Letters

Long sentences in tough prisons would be a deterrent to most criminals. Even if there are those who would not be deterred, their long sentences would at least mean a respite for law-abiding citizens.

We need more prisons and longer sentences to move the fear from the innocent to the guilty.

It's called being tough on crime.
