It's a theological conundrum as old as Christianity. If God is allpowerful, loving and forgiving, how can Judas be allowed to spend eternity in Hell? There must have been something good about him for Jesus to have selected him. Maybe Judas had a good motive behind his betrayal. Anyway, weren't there others just as culpable - Caiaphas? Pontius Pilate? And couldn't Jesus have stopped him? This is all heavy stuff played out occasionally as a madcap comedy and enacted as a trial in the language of backstreet New York.
