STEPHEN McMANUS is the home-grown Bhoy made good, the youngster who progressed through the ranks to achieve his dream of captaining Celtic. Sometimes, though, he wishes he was a foreign mercenary parachuted into the role. That way, he contends, he would be subjected to a lot less grief.

Whether it's a fellow shopper intent on giving him their tuppence's worth in the fruit and veg aisle or an opportunistic loudmouth out for a stroll in Glasgow city centre, McManus admits he is in the firing line off the field as much as he is on it. Which, at the moment, is quite a lot.
