AWARNING from Brazil's 'restaurant mafia' halted Chris Moore's first attempts to sell food. He heeded the threats, came to Britain and 30 years later he is leading Domino's Pizza through the recession in the UK and Ireland. And despite the downturn, or perhaps because of it, an incredible 37 million pizzas were sold last year.

That was a rise of 8.4 per cent to Pounds 350.8 million, with pre- tax profits up 24.7 per cent to Pounds 23.4 million and a new outlet being opened every week. A trading statement due this week is expected to underline the group's strong performance.
