Leslie Phillips went on a spending spree in 1966. He bought a house in Maida Vale, a farmhouse in Ibiza and a new Mercedes in racing green. Last, but by no means least, he snapped up a Buckinghamshire country cottage in his lunch hour.

'I'm a collector,' he laughs. Back then, Phillips was starring in the popular Doctor films. A fellow actor told him about a little Georgian property he was selling in the village of Bledlow Ridge, near High Wycombe.
