The Colleen Bawn Project Arts, Until September 4 ****
If this is Victorian melodrama, let's have more of it. Dion Boucicault's play, first staged in 1860, has a great story, including a murder plot, broken-hearted lovers, songs, colourful characters, social politics and comic misunderstandings that keep everything interesting right up to the final scene. The most important thing about staging melodrama is for the cast and crew to play it seriously, and not to camp up the occasionally over-ripe dialogue. In this fast-paced, highly entertaining production, directed by Jimmy Fay, the laughs only come in the right places and the serious drama gets its due respect.See the full content of this document
