Summary


If it was possible to travel back in time and see a London garden in its heyday, where would you go? As someone with a thirst for garden history, I have a long list compiled in my mind that includes the now vanished 17th Century Vauxhall pleasure gardens, Chiswick House in West London, which would have been sublime in the 1730s, and Myddelton House near Enfield, created by plantsman E.A. Bowles during the first half of the 20th Century.

Well, my list has just grown bigger, thanks to a visit to Syon Lodge, a Georgian gem that is five minutes' drive from Richmond station and a stone's throw from the River Thames in Isleworth, South-West London.
