ANDY MURRAY'S momentous assault on the summit of the game broke new ground in Montreal last night as he became the first British tennis player to be ranked No 2 in the world.

Fittingly, for a man who is a student of boxing, Murray defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, a Muhammad Ali lookalike from France, to replace Rafael Nadal on the shoulder of Roger Federer, a man widely acclaimed as the greatest player of all time after he won a record 15th Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last month, just four weeks after landing the French Open.
