LAST summer it was supposed to be World Cup stars on Hearts' radar; this year a host of British-based players to redress the balance in a squad overloaded with foreigners. But, for the second close-season running, Vladimir Romanov has failed to deliver on his transfer pledges.

Cynics might suggest the Hearts owner has ramped up expectation in order to fuel season-ticket sales but, whatever the truth, his club have once again commenced an SPL campaign looking in worse shape than the season before.
