SCOTLAND captain Barry Ferguson has never apologised for admitting that he switches off from football completely in the summer. But as he put his feet up last night and went to sleep on the season past, perhaps even he could not stop the inside of those eyelids screening previews to the 'awesome autumn' that lies ahead.

Career contentment has arrived at Ferguson's door in the last month by way of a return home to Rangers which yielded two trophies, one of which was snatched in a style he'd have dismissed from his Bellshill boyhood dreams as being too fanciful.
