IT WAS just the sort of 'phishing' scam vigilant customers have been told to watch out for - an unsolicited text message advising customers to ring a number urgently, where they were then asked for their confidential credit-card details.

So the wised-up targets knew exactly what to do. They conscientiously contacted Bank of Ireland to warn about the fraud - only to be told: 'Er... yes, that was us, actually.'
