History Of Now: The Story Of The Noughties BBC2, 9pm It wasn't until the later part of the past decade that most people knew what to call the first age of the new millennium. Ten years after we partied like it was 1999, the fads and fashions of the Noughties offer teasing indications of what life will be like for 21st- century Britons. This three-parter looks at the main phenomena of the Noughties, now that they're over, offering some depressing insights into the future.

It starts by considering how society's overwhelming obsession with youth has led to battlelines being drawn between the young and the want-to-be young. Will Self (top, far left) is among the contributors bemoaning the 'kidulthood' trend, which saw an ageing population stretch the 'knicker elastic of adolescence' to breaking point and fill its homes with indulgent toys, including micro- scooters and Wiis, while agonising about the 'feral youths' who binge-drink the country's town centres dry each weekend.
