BRITAIN's largest privately financed defence project, the Pounds 13 billion RAF AirTanker contract, is to be given the go-ahead in the next two weeks.
Years of negotiations with the MoD and the Treasury are understood to have been successfully concluded and thousands of UK jobs will be saved. News of the agreement will be greeted with relief by the RAF, which was desperate for replacements for its ageing fleet of Tristar and VC10s.
