RICHIE RAMSAY was last night agonising over whether or not to impose a two-shot penalty on himself in the Wales Open following a 90-minute meeting with the European Tour's chief referee, John Paramor The 25-year-old Aberdonian requested that he be given time to make up his mind whether he broke the rules after being spotted stamping down the area where he was about to replace his ball on the eighth fairway during yesterday's third round. Ramsay was leading the rain-delayed tournament when Paramor spotted the incident on Sky TV.

Ramsay argued that he was testing for casual water after the field were allowed preferred lies because of the conditions but Paramor's interpretation was different as he indicated that Ramsay had possibly improved the area of his intended swing.
