Summary
English National Opera may have lost the plot elsewhere, but David McVicar's The Turn Of The Screw, first seen in St Petersburg last year, is very special. It's a worthy successor to the ENO's Billy Budd two years ago and last summer's Death In Venice.
The cast are faultless, led by Rebecca Evans's Governess. Both strong and vulnerable, it is a debut performance to treasure. Her confrontations with Miss Jessel, a glamorous assumption by Cheryl Barker, have rare edge.See the full content of this document
