THREE YEARS ago, when the last whiff of sulphur was scented in Kerry, Kieran Donaghy was the star attraction. Now he's making do with being the welcome distraction. The 2006 footballer of the year hasn't been able to perform on the field as he recovers from his third operation of the season but he's compensated off it as team mascot.

His teammates would say he's held the role since his stunning full debut season in '06 but that's not to trivialise what he's done for Kerry off-the-field, especially over the past couple of turbulent months.
