Remember the scene in Life Of Brian in which a group of women pull their veils down and buy comedy beards to watch a martyr being stoned? The Monty Python team's religious satire quickly comes to mind during a new film from Iran, where women are banned from going to football matches.

Jafar Panahi's curious comedy, Offside (PG) ***, begins on a crowded bus heading to the national stadium where Iran face Bahrain in their final World Cup qualifier. Among the noisy male fans is a heavily disguised girl, whom we follow as she tries to pass army cordons and a body search before being captured by a soldier.
