Summary
The Butterfly Effect (15) * is a puzzling, unpleasant time- travel thriller. Four childhood friends' lives were ruined by a paedophile (sex offenders now rivalling Nazis as cinema's most overworked villains). As an adult, and having blocked out these terrifying incidents, Ashton Kutcher's scientist is researching memory when he stumbles on a way not only to access his buried traumas but to go back in time and change events. Unfortunately, as any Star Trek fan knows, time travel doesn't make things better, just different.
A better cast would have exploited the opportunities to show off (Amy Smart in alternate timelines plays a despairing waitress, a college party girl and a junkie prostitute, none particularly compellingly) while Kutcher rewrites history.See the full content of this document
