ROMAN Arkadyevich Abramovich owns a number of yachts. The largest, Eclipse, has been valued at Pounds 300million and comes equipped with two helipads, two swimming pools, a submarine and a missile defence system. Another, Pelorus, is smaller and has fewer optional extras, yet still it is worth some Pounds 200m. He also owns a Boeing 767 aircraft, costing Pounds 100m, and at least three helicopters.

Add them together, and you will see that Abramovich has invested the thick end of Pounds 700m on luxurious modes of transport. This, by a remarkable chance, is roughly the same amount that he has spent on Chelsea Football Club.
