ENGLAND cricket captain Michael Vaughan was close to being banned for the final Test against South Africa after his allegedly 'rude and dismissive' attitude towards match referee Clive Lloyd.

Vaughan was fined his entire match fee of about Pounds 6,000 following his remarks about the 'inconsistency' of umpires Steve Bucknor and Aleem Dar in their interpretation of bad light during the fourth Test in Johannesburg.
