The first and last time New York comic David Cross performed in London, he delivered a blistering masterclass in Left-leaning political comedy. Since then, he has found success as the gay, if only he knew it, Tobias Funke in Fox's short-lived cult comedy Arrested Development.

The career turn appears to have softened his stance. For his second London run, at The 100 Club ***, he's dispensed with the solo act and brought over a clutch of American friends. He has even invited along a guest British or Irish comic each night and he's modestly happy not to take centre stage.
