A TRIP to India by Britain's top tax official and a colleague cost taxpayers more than Pounds 8,400, even though they delivered just one 35minute speech each.
Dave Hartnett, permanent secretary for tax at HM Revenue & Customs, went on the 4,500mile jaunt in December to attend a conference with colleague Melissa Tatton. Expenses for Mr Hartnett's trip have just been made public, showing that his businessclass flights cost Pounds 2,891.17 and his accommodation a further Pounds 1,171. With a Pounds 23 train ticket and the Pounds 120.95 cost of obtaining a visa, his bill totalled Pounds 4,206.12.See the full content of this document
