Summary
Seville is a city of huge exuberance, great style and big gestures. The dramatic arm movements of the flamenco dancer, the sweep of the bullfighter's cape and the defiance of Carmen, immortalised as a worker in the tobacco factory behind the river, all embody the passion of the place.
On fiesta days the city streets are lined with thousands of families, all dressed in their Sunday best. Floats are carried on the necks of teams of 30 or so giants who disappear beneath the skirts of the floats and then, at the sound of a sharp tap on the side, lift them with a great groan.
