NEIL LENNON firmly believed the that only way he would see Shunsuke Nakamura become a Champions League hero this season was on a television highlights programme, scoring for one of the competition's Spanish giants.

For when the Celtic captain sat down the SPL trophy and said sayonara to his colleague last May, he suspected Nakamura would not return to Glasgow for the new season. Withdrawn in the dressing room, his English fragmented at best, and offered the chance of an escape route to warmer climes in La Liga after just 10 months in Scotland, Nakamura was odds-against, in Lennon's mind, to favour a second campaign here.
