And then she let rip again with one of the loudest, naughtiest cackles heard in civilised society since Sid James first clapped eyes on Barbara Windsor with her top off in the Carry On films.

Ms Goody had that effect on people. She made everyone laugh, sometimes, admittedly, for the wrong reasons, but usually for the right ones, because she had a wickedly funny sense of humour.

I don't normally apologise to my interview subjects before we even start talking - it shows unnecessary weakness! - but in Jade's case, I felt compelled to. Not least because the girl standing in front of me was gleaming with health, had lost loads of weight, and no longer even mildly resembled anything remotely porker-like.
