Summary


Whatever happened to a normal childhood? It doesn't matter how old soap youngsters are, or which family they have the misfortune to be born into, misery dominates their early years.

Take Coronation Street's Simon. He arrived in Weatherfield, unwanted by his father and thrust into a life with a chain-smoking grandmother and her adulterous husband. Now the poor boy has been the subject of a tug-of-war between grandfathers - George offering to put up the money to send him to private school, and Ken trying to talk Peter out of off-loading his son again. It has also been reported that the poor boy is due to be the centre of a kidnapping plot, too, although given the hell he is having to endure back home, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be the instigator of it.
