BRITISH soldiers serving in Afghanistan are being forced to buy emergency battlefield dressings from the local army because they do not have enough of their own.

The troops, who are stationed in the violent Helmand province, have bitterly complained in phone calls home that they are short of the lifesaving bandages, which are used to treat gunshot wounds.
