Start-Ups Facing Pressure From Vat Registration Delays

START-UP businesses are being forced to wait for up to five months to receive their VAT registration from Revenue & Customs, despite claims that it processes about 70 per cent of applications within two weeks.

One small firm owner told Financial Mail he had registered his company for VAT in April after it began trading and was sent a letter advising that applications were taking six weeks to complete. But despite regularly chasing up the application, it did not receive its registration until last week - nearly five months later.
