Stew a word that, 20 years back, would have turned my stomach into a quivering wreck. At its school-lunch worst, a witch's brew of fatty scraps of meat and dusty flour clots, all swimming for their lives in a vapid, artificially browned sludge. An occasional carrot would float disconsolately to the top of this oily mess, and the grease would coat the roof of your mouth for hours to come.
This was no mere meal, more a weapon of mass disgusting, powerful enough to destroy any interest in eating it again for years to come. Which is a crying shame, as a good stew is one of the greatest comfort foods of all time.See the full content of this document
