EMBATTLED Chancellor Alistair Darling faces a summer of discontent from public sector workers as a string of unions ballot their members over strike action.

Tomorrow sees the result of a strike ballot of more than 800,000 local government workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland who have been urged by their union Unison to reject a 2.45 per cent pay offer.
