The Commons expenses scandal has been blamed for an apparent suicide attempt by Tory MP David Ruffley, who threw himself under a train.

Former Shadow Police Minister Mr Ruffley, 48, jumped in front of an express train at London's Victoria station during the evening rush-hour on Thursday. The MP for Bury St edmunds in Suffolk survived after the train passed right over him and he missed the live rail.
