Call it a Leonard Cohen pilgrimage, call it obsession. For here I am in Montreal, 'that shining Jerusalem of the north' as Cohen described it, the place of his birth, aiming to genuflect in his footsteps.

I am a fan - of the early novels, of the imagery of his poetry, of the dirges that haunt me ruthlessly into my dreams.
