Summary
The area between Valencia and Denia has many coastal resorts, most of which are less developed and quieter than those on the Costa Blanca. Gandia, 65 kilometres south of Valencia, is one of the most popular resorts. Playa de Gandia is about four kilometres from the town and is one of the best beaches on the Valencian coastline. The resort appeals mainly to Spaniards - Madrilenos and day-tripping Valencians. In summer it has a lively nightlife but out of season the beach is all but deserted during the week.
The other main beach resort south of Valencia is Cullera, 30km north of Gandia. It has a fine sandy beach that extends southwards to the Rio Jucar. It's worth walking up to Cullera's castle, where there are some great views and a small chapel, the Santuary of the Virgin, just below the castle. Cullera is also home to the Museo del Arroz (Rice Museum), and if you spend much time in these parts, you will become aware of what an intricate part rice plays in the life of the region. Sueca, an attractive town surrounded by rice paddies is home to some fine monuments, the pick of which is the 17th- century royal church of Nuestra Senora de Sales. There are a couple more fine historic buildings, the church of San Pedro, the town hall and some important Modernist architecture. Sueca is also home to the annual Rice Fiesta, which takes place the first fortnight in September.See the full content of this document
