Recently, a Tory Shadow Minister friend expressed envy of the miserable Deputy Prime Minister: 'God, how times have changed,' he moaned dyspeptically. 'Girls on tap, high living it's an outrage. I mean, that it should be Labour! It's a reversal of the natural order of things, a betrayal of history.' I understood what he meant. Back in the good old days, it was the Tories who had sex scandals and Labour who had the financial ones.
