Last week, I ventured once more into the warm fug of space that is my local charity shop. I know it so well it almost feels like home only with rather more in the way of LPs and Len Deighton paperbacks.
Anyhow, I called out brightly to the volunteer in the back room, using my customary refrain: 'Another bag for you, Mildred!' Mildred, I could tell from the thickening silence that emanated from the back room, was not amused.
