SIR CHRISTOPHER MEYER He was Britain's longest-serving ambassador to the US since World War II - and also one of the most controversial. Sir Christopher Meyer spent six years in Washington, witnessing such historic events as 9/11 and the start of the Iraq war, and his subsequent memoirs were fiercely critical of the Government he served.
As well as the US, Meyer had diplomatic postings to Moscow and Germany and was also press secretary to Prime Minister John Major. Now 66, his new TV series Getting Our Way looks back at 500 years of intrigue and brinksmanship in British diplomacy.
