'It is a sad fact that almost everything in life is more thrilling when you're young. Remember the excitement you felt at Christmas or an approaching birthday? The taste and crunchiness of an apple, the triumph of being first in a race at school sports day or whizzing down a steep hill on your bicycle without putting the brakes on? As we get older and our horizons become wider, we are thrilled most by 'firsts', be that love, a wage packet, a plane journey, a holiday abroad, passing our driving test or our first home.
Fortunately there is an almost immeasurable supply of 'firsts' to keep on thrilling and delighting us, none greater perhaps than our children.
