PROMOTED Scunthorpe clinched the title and put paid to Tranmere's remote playoff hopes thanks to an own goal from keeper Gavin Ward and a strike from Billy Sharp.

Steve Davies hit the side netting early on for Tranmere from a free-kick and Paul McLaren hit a post from 20 yards, but Rovers spurned their best chance in first-half injury-time when McLaren blasted over after being set up by Davies.
