DO you remember when motorways were the most exciting places on Earth? Once the M4 had carved its way from London towards Chepstow via the Severn Bridge (I was there when the Queen opened it in 1966), we used to go from the Welsh side on special outings to the late-lamented Top Rank service station at Aust, near Bristol.
We would pay the two shillings and six pence bridge toll just for the privilege of having egg and chips in the service station cafeteria.
