HUNDREDS of British soldiers fighting in the extreme heat of Afghanistan are suffering a water shortage which has led to illness and rationing and is forcing them to drink from wells treated with chlorine.

They have been reduced to drinking one to two litres a day, a fifth of what they require, according to medics.
