SCOTLAND'S Arctic weather has had a welcome spin-off for police by keeping troublemakers indoors and reducing violent crime.

As temperatures as low as minus 16c (3f) kept the majority of Scots off the streets last week - a period which normally sees traditional flashpoints as Christmas revellers converge on town centres - police said they recorded only a small number of violent incidents.
