BMW are the masters of filling niches in the market with cars - saloons, roadsters, convertibles, sport utility vehicles, sport activity models and, coming soon, probably a 300bhp ice-cream van with 18-inch alloys - but Audi is fast catching up. After the A5 of 2007, the new A7 Sportback is a stunning addition to the range, with coupe-like styling, luxury saloon interior and prairies of space in the boot.

Even better, despite its almost five-metre length, it still looks slender and rather beautiful and, for me, it really was a case of love at first sight.
